What we believe at Upwey Anglican Church.

Our statement of faith

We believe in the  one eternal God, who is the Creator of all things. He exists in three equal  Persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. He is absolutely  loving and completely holy.

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ,  as both God and man is the only One who can reconcile us to God. He lived a sinless and exemplary life, died on the cross as a perfect atoning sacrifice  in our place, and rose from the grave, and ascended to the Fathers right hand, to  prove His power over sin and death, and to raise us to new life.

We believe that  the Holy Spirit dwells in every Christian and it is his presence within every Christian that brings about their  new birth.  We believe the Holy Spirit ministers to us as counselor, comforter and guide to reveal spiritual truth.   The Holy Spirit   acts in the world to convict of sin,  to perform miraculous deeds that bring glory to God, to  confirm the truth of the gospel, and  declare the presence of God.   We believe the Spirit gives every believer spiritual  gifts for the building up of the  body of Christ.

We believe that the Bible is God's Word. It is accurate, authoritative, inerrant  and applicable to our every day lives.

We believe that God created the heavens and the earth,  and that  the creation  is sustained by God, and it declares his eternal power and divine nature. We believe humanity  is made in the image of God, to be like Him in character. We believe the creation  has been marred or distorted by the consequences of sin.

We believe that  humanity is living independently of God, and this declaration of autonomy and its fruit is sin in God’s sight.  We believe sin has separated each person from God and from  His purpose for their lives.  We believe that without trusting God and willingly placing themselves under his authority, and thus benefiting from the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ, humanity   will face judgment and will remain separated from God for eternity.

We believe that Jesus Christ will return to this earth  as he has promised, and that those who repent and  believe in Him will be separated from the rest of humanity,  raised and glorified to a new life.

We believe that  it is God’s intention to transform us by maturing,   healing, and growing us, so that we can live  healthy and  purposeful lives in order to serve Him.

We believe in the Christian church, as a gathering of those who have been born again, and are alive spiritually. When the church gathers,  the Word is to be  preached, and the sacraments of Baptism and Communion are to be administered. The church is to be a place of love, service, teaching, fellowship, prayer, and witness.

We believe that the adversary, Satan stands in opposition to the goodness of God, and that by deceit he aims to kill,  steal and destroy. His work is evil and destructive.   Satan’s power has been disarmed upon the cross, and  Satan will be totally doomed when Christ returns.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church, made up of  repentant believers, and comprising many  denominations and congregations in  various localities around the world.
